AI Safety Theory of Change / Ideation Workshop in Tokyo

Are you an AI safety researcher in Japan, working another job while trying to upskill in AI safety research? Are you having trouble getting funding? This workshop aims to help people like you transition into full-time AI safety work, whether technical research, policy work, or fieldbuilding. We'll work together on the best ideas to focus on and therefore the best way to get funded. The workshop will provide a space for thinking carefully about your theory of change, and iterating on ideas with people experienced at AI safety research. We will host ~20 attendees onsite, facilitating discussions, getting everyone to write their ideas down, and red-teaming them. We will then encourage attendees to submit their grants to open funding calls, or continue iteration online. This workshop is run by David Williams-King in partnership with Esa Koskinen of AI Safety Tokyo. David works at ERA as a Senior Research Manager, and is very used to helping people think through research problems and grant-writing. He lives in Canada and works in the UK, and is visiting Japan to run this workshop. David's background is in cybersecurity, he is lead instructor for the Frontier AI Security Training in Singapore, and has taught at various AISB events and the M3 fellowship. He also runs a small research org called Lida Safety, and an AI safety YouTube channel. This event will be primarily in English. However, David does speak some Japanese.
